41
Samba 4.0.0 alpha1 Available for Download

43
Samba 4 is the ambitious next version of the Samba suite that is being developed
44 in parallel to the stable 3.0 series. The main emphasis in this branch is
45 support for the Active Directory logon protocols used by Windows 2000 and above.

47
Samba 4 is currently not yet in a state where it is usable in
48 production environments. Note the WARNINGS in WHATSNEW.txt in the source
49 and the STATUS file which aims to document what should and should not work.

51
Samba4 alpha1 is the culmination of 4.5 years of development under our
52 belt since Tridge first proposed a new Virtual File System (VFS) layer
53 for Samba3 (a project which eventually lead to our Active Directory
54 efforts), and 1.5 years since we first released a Technology Preview.
55 We wish to allow users, managers and developers to see how we have
56 progressed, and to invite feedback and support.

58
This release has been signed using GPG with Andrew Barlett's GPG key (28B436BB).
59 The source code can be
60 downloaded now.

67 The popularity of Samba puts a strain on our network. By using a
68 mirror site you can do your bit to reduce the load.
