   7 <p>A few tips when submitting to this or any mailing list.</p>

  10   <li>Make your subject short and descriptive. Avoid the words "help" or
  11   "Samba" in the subject. The readers of this list already know that a)
  12   you need help, and b) you are writing about samba (of course, you may
  13   need to distinguish between Samba PDC and other file sharing software).
  14   Avoid phrases such as "what is" and "how do i". Some good subject lines
  15   might look like "Slow response with Excel files" or "Migrating from
  16   Samba PDC to NT PDC".</li>

  18   <li>If you include the original message in your reply, trim it so that
  19   only the relevant lines, enough to establish context, are included.
  20   Chances are (since this is a mailing list) we've already read the
  21   original message.</li>

  23   <li>Trim irrelevant headers from the original message in your reply. All
  24   we need to see is a) From, b) Date, and c) Subject. We don't even
  25   really need the Subject, if you haven't changed it. Better yet is to
  26   just preface the original message with "On [date] [someone] wrote:".</li>

  28   <li>Recipients who repeatedly send mailer daemon or vacation
  29 messages to list posters will be unsubscribed without warning.  Correctly implemented vacation programs should not respond to mailing list postings.</li>

  31   <li>Please be aware that mail to these lists will be distributed to
  32 many subscribers, and will be permanently and publicly archived.
  33 In general we will not remove posted messages from the archives.
  34 Exceptions are described in our  <a href="archive-policy.html">archive

  37   <li>Please don't reply to or argue about spam, spam filters or
  38       viruses on any Samba lists.  We do have a spam filtering system
  39       that is working quite well thank you very much but occasionally
  40       unwanted messages slip through.  Deal with it.</li>

  42       <li><a name="whiny-frisbie">If</a> you use the Internet,
  43       and especially if you post to a public mailing list, you may
  44       receive spam or viruses.  You should either use some kind of <a
  45       href="http://spamassassin.org/">filtering</a>, or post from a <a
  46       href="http://spamgourmet.com/">disposable address</a>.  Do
  47       <b>not</b> whine about it on the list.</li>

  49   <li>Never say "Me too." It doesn't help anyone solve the problem.
  50   Instead, if you ARE having the same problem, give more information.
  51   Have you seen something that the other writer hasn't mentioned, which
  52   may be helpful?</li>

  54   <li>If you ask about a problem, then come up with the solution on your
  55   own or through another source, by all means post it. Someone else may have
  56   the same problem and is waiting for an answer, but never hears of it.</li>
